How it Works - the rules
Background
The MG Car Club South West Centre was formed on October 7th 1936. To celebrate the 90th Anniversary all Club members are invited to take part in a Self-Guided Motor Tour. The aim is simple – to get us all out enjoying our MGs across this glorious Centre. MGs are for driving, let’s drive them!
Every South West Centre member will receive a birthday card from the Centre which will feature 90 places or events of interest that we can visit between January 1st and September 30th 2026. Gold, Silver and Bronze awards will be presented and the MG that visits the most locations will be awarded the brand-new Car of the Year award. Entry is not limited to SW Centre – any MGCC member can take part, simply email mgccswtour@proton.me to arrange a birthday card.
Many of the “locations” are MG Car Club SW competitive events; alongside the Self-Guided Tour 2026 sees the re-birth the Drivers’ Championship and points can be scored for competing and marshalling. Anyone visiting to gain another “location” in their Self-Guided Tour could enter and qualify for Drivers’ Championship points, or even help out with the marshaling for the day. It’s great fun and really rewarding.
How It Works
Entrants have 9 months to visit as many of the locations as they wish in their MG. There is no set route, visit in any order. With the exception of the MGCC SW events there are no set dates. Visits can be made alone or with friends, visit in a day or make a holiday of it. At each location entrants must take a digital photograph of their MG showing time and date stamp together with the 90th Anniversary Birthday Card which will be sent to South West Centre members with “Safety Fast!”.
A “claim” can be made by completing the claim form HERE. You submit the form for every location visited and upload your photo each time. Where it’s not possible to be photographed alongside the location, the entry sign or some other evidence of visit is perfectly acceptable. No-one is expected to cross private land, block public roads or otherwise break the law to get their photographs – so get creative! It’s not the location that’s the important item, but the day out in an MG. Oh, and it can be ANY MG, but it has to be a car that could belong to an MG Register so your Morris 1100 or BMW daily driver does not count!
The current number of locations visited will be published monthly in a league table.
Occasionally the judges will ask to publish photographs on our web site, social media or in print. Everyone has the right to refuse without penalty.
